Manuel Lopez is a 67-year-old Puerto Rican man from New York City who has been stably housed for three years after experiencing periods of homelessness in both New York and Miami. Growing up in a military family with both parents serving, his father as a soldier and mother as a military nurse, Manuel completed college with a degree in computer programming and built a diverse career as both a performer and dancer in New York and later as a store manager for Macy’s when he moved to Miami. Now receiving disability income, Manuel draws strength from his faith, regularly attending church, praying, and reading the Bible to manage life’s challenges. He maintains connections with his sister and children while focusing on his health and personal goals. Looking toward the future, Manuel has ambitious plans including moving to a better apartment in Brickell, writing a book about his experiences as a breakdancer in New York, and starting his own sneakers company, demonstrating his entrepreneurial spirit and creative drive.
