Service Hub Maps

This selection of maps demonstrates concentrations of social services and housing programs addressing homelessness in and around Downtown Miami and Overtown. These locations provide important resources for people experiencing homelessness, including opportunities to get help and build community.

The photographs on one map represent locations that participating photographers felt were significant in their daily lives. Some, like the Miami-Dade Public Library, are safe spaces for learning and self-development. While others fulfill housing, income, and health needs.

To create these maps, Ph.D. student Rebecca Young used GIS software to plot the locations of all housing and social services in Miami Dade County’s system for addressing homelessness. As Overtown and other parts of central Miami face rapid redevelopment, this mapping plays an important role in understand how communities are impacted. This is especially important for service hubs because they serve as a crucial support for some of Miami’s most vulnerable citizens.
